This is a response to the Disadvantages of Bitcoin post on the Stanford CS Faculty blog . Please read that post before reading my response. To get an idea of the advantages of Bitcoin there is an Advantages section on the same blog. I also recommend having a look at the We Use Coins site.

The word "utopia" implies a perfect society which is an oxymoron in itself because a society that stagnates is far from perfect. Like anything living; society needs to grow and adapt. The word communism also strikes fear into uninformed minds but in reality it's the sustainable approach when compared to free market capitalism or what we live in today which is creditism or wage slavery.

Thanks to the Reddit community and OMG Ubuntu , i was able to circumvent the closed beta access restriction for Steam and i managed to install and run the Steam client. Most of the games in my library were not available as they did not have Ubuntu versions. Of the games that were available only three actually installed correctly; Amnesia, World of Goo and Spaz. I've played Amnesia before on Ubuntu and it was a large download so i didn't test that game. World of Goo worked flawlessly and Spaz ran but had no sound.

The rate of acceleration in the open source world is far beyond that of the proprietary world. Of course large pools of money keep the proprietary vendors afloat and will for many years to come. However, closed institutions will eventually be unable to keep up with the rate of change regardless of how many developers they hire .

Like it or not, generalisation is a social survival tool. Humans may gradually improve their interaction skills but even if we were all the same colour and spoke the same language, we would eventually devise other justifications for segregation. Racism doesn't really exist at all, what we refer to as racism is in my opinion; culturalism. We simply associate physical aspects with the cultural generalisations we create.

If you spend a bit of time looking into the topic of extraterrestrial beings you would probably also conclude that the evidence supporting the case is almost overwhelming. It really is pervasive enough that it doesn't require extensive research to be able to sift through the inconsistencies and discover the reality of the situation.

Sometimes i want nothing more than to see the free market system burn but my impatience is unwarranted, the current system needs to run its course but it's end is inevitable. The financial industry, the legal industry, the arms industry, etcetera will all eventually disappear, not by force but through natural and predictable obsolescence.
